What happens during a Free Screen appointment?

At Archway Chiropractic, we offer a free half-hour consultation to those people who are maybe unsure if Chiropractic treatment can help them or if it is suitable. This is chance to discuss your problem with the chiropractor before booking the initial consultation. During this visit, a brief history of the problem will be taken, followed by a short examination to determine the likely cause of your pain. Your chiropractor will then discuss this with you, along with treatment recommendations. If Chiropractic treatment is unsuitable or unlikely to help, your chiropractor will inform you of this and advise what course of action may be better suited to your individual problem.

If chiropractic treatment is recommended, you will then be able to book in for your initial consultation. Please note, the examination during a Free Screen appointment is not as comprehensive and therefore an Initial Consultation would be required before any treatment can be given.

What happens during an Initial Consultation?

This appointment takes up to 1 hour and you will be asked to arrive 10 minutes early in order to fill out some paperwork consisting of your personal details and a medical questionnaire (these are available to download here to fill out at your convenience). After filling out the paperwork, your chiropractor will take you through to the consultation room.

To begin with, your chiropractor will ask questions relating to your main complaint, followed by any other health concerns you may have. Questions will also be asked regarding your general health, family history, and past medical history. After the case history has been completed, your chiropractor will move on to the examination.

The examination consists of a full postural assessment, specific chiropractic and orthopaedic tests and a neurological examination. Blood pressure will also be taken. Everything will be explained to you as we go along, and every effort will be made to make you as comfortable as possible. At Archway Chiropractic, we understand that people come to us in pain, and we try to limit this as much as possible during the examination.

If your chiropractor feels that X-Ray examination is appropriate, this will be discussed with you prior to any treatment being given (see Obtaining X-Rays).

Assuming X-rays are not required, the examination will be followed by a detailed Report of Findings. This is where your chiropractor will discuss the cause of your pain, the diagnosis, and the treatment plan. Everything will be explained, using models and illustrations where appropriate, in easy-to-understand language; at Archway Chiropractic, we know our patients do not want to be bombarded with medical speak! Any questions will be answered to ensure you have total understanding of your pain and how chiropractic will help.

After signing the consent form, your first treatment will then complete the Initial Consultation, along with recommendations for helping to manage the pain at home. Your chiropractor will advise on when to book your follow-up treatments, which will be managed from reception.
