What happens during a Free Screen appointment?
At Talako Therapies, we offer a free half-hour consultation to those people who may be unsure if Chiropractic or Craniosacral therapy can help them or which therapy is most suited to their needs. This is a chance to discuss your problem with Dr Tracy Dixon DC CST before booking the initial consultation. During this visit, a brief history of the problem will be taken, and this may be followed by a short examination to determine the likely cause of your pain, depending on your individual circumstances and therapy choices. Dr Tracy Dixon DC CST will then discuss this with you, along with treatment recommendations. If neither Chiropractic or Craniosacral Therapy are suitable or likely to help, you will be informed of this and advised what course of action may be better suited to your individual problem.
If Chiropractic treatment and/or Craniosacral Therapy is recommended, you will then be able to book in for your initial consultation, during which you will receive your first treatment. Please note, treatment cannot be given during a Free Screen appointment.

What happens during an Initial Consultation?
This appointment takes up to 1 hour for Chiropractic or 1.5 hours for Craniosacral Therapy; you will be required to complete an intake form, consisting of your personal details and a medical questionnaire, prior to your appointment. A link to the form will automatically be emailed to you when the appointment is booked.
To begin with, your therapist will ask questions relating to your main complaint, followed by any other health concerns you may have. Questions will also be asked regarding your general health, family history, birth history (if known) and past medical history. Once the case history has been completed, your appointment will differ depending on the therapy chosen:
Craniosacral Therapy:
Following the case history, you will be asked to lie down on your back on the treatment couch (fully clothed). Your therapist will then place her hands very gently on various parts of your body, such as the head, base of the spine, feet, and other areas, encouraging your body to relax and begin to make the changes it needs. Because the body functions as a whole, Dr Tracy Dixon DC CST may focus on other areas than where your symptoms occur. During the session, you may feel a sense of well-being, deep relaxation, heat or tingling, movement of energy, emotional releases, deep sense of peace, or subtle movements within the body.
Following completion of your treatment, you will be allowed time to relax and adjust before getting off the treatment couch. Each session is different as everyone is an individual with different requirements each time they come for treatment. There will also be time to discuss anything you felt or noticed during your treatment, to answer any questions you may have, and to discuss your treatment plan moving forward.
Chiropractic Treatment:
Prior to carrying out any Chiropractic treatment, following the case history, a physical examination will be carried out. This examination consists of a full postural assessment, specific chiropractic and orthopaedic tests and a neurological examination. Blood pressure will also be taken. Everything will be explained to you as we go along, and every effort will be made to make you as comfortable as possible. At Talako Therapies, we understand that people come to us in pain, and we try to limit this as much as possible during the examination.
If your chiropractor feels that X-Ray examination or MRI scans are required, this will be discussed with you prior to any treatment being given (see Obtaining X-Rays/MRI Scans).
Assuming imaging is not required, the examination will be followed by a detailed Report of Findings. This is where your chiropractor will discuss the cause of your pain, the diagnosis, and the treatment plan. Everything will be explained, using models and illustrations where appropriate, in easy-to-understand language; at Talako Therapies, we know our patients do not want to be bombarded with medical speak! Any questions will be answered to ensure you have total understanding of your pain and how chiropractic will help.
After signing the consent form, your first treatment will then complete the Initial Consultation, along with recommendations for helping to manage the pain at home. Your chiropractor will then advise when to book your follow-up treatments and arrange this for you.

Combined Chiropractic and Craniosacral Therapy
For some patients, it may be of most benefit to use a combination of Chiropractic techniques and Craniosacral Therapy. Combining these two therapies can work exceptionally well, speeding up the healing and recovery process on all levels, physical, mental and emotional. If this approach would be suitable, it will be discussed with you and a treatment plan devised with your agreement.
